Dispatch desk — logging the hour, not the shift

Tuesday, 25 August · 5:30 pm · Internal

shared with the 3 in the room

Summary

After Monday's review we worked out where the hour a truck leaves is already written down. The security gate register records every gate-out with a time; the dispatch tracker has only ever recorded the shift. From 1 September the tracker takes the gate-out time from the register, so on-time dispatch can be read by the hour.

What was discussed

4
  • Why the tracker shows the shift and not the hour

    Suresh
  • The gate register already holds the gate-out time for every truck

    Suresh
  • Copying the time across during the day rather than at the end of the shift

    Suresh
  • Back-filling August from the register so the month can be compared

Decisions

1

What the room settled. It changes no record, and it is the first thing everyone forgets.

  1. 1

From 1 September the tracker's gate-out time is copied from the security register, not written at the end of the shift.

What we learned

1

What the company should not have to learn twice.

  1. The security gate register is the only record in the company of the hour a truck leaves. It has been kept for years and never read.
